Day 4 - After our rather long day of riding yesterday we were quite happy to have a lazy morning around the pool at the amazing Le Meridion Resort and a spot of shopping/sightseeing in Chiang Rai. After a late lunch at the hotel we packed our gear and headed north east towards the Golden Triangle (A stretch of the Mekong River where the borders of Myanmar, Thailand and Laos converge). After a 75km ride to the Golden Triangle for a quick photo opportunity we headed 60kms South East along side the Mekong River and Laos Border to Chiang Khong and the Chiang Khong Teak Garden Hotel where our balcony overlooks the Mekong River just across from Huay Xai in Laos. Tomorrow (Day 5) we will be heading for the Chiang Khong Customs and Immigration to arrange to take our bikes out of Thailand and across to Laos for the next part of our trip. Whilst we have all the relevant paperwork for the crossing (Thanks to Reed's attention to detail), apparently it can be a lengthy process if the Customs Officers are inexperienced with Motorcycle exports which may require a call to one of the other border crossings to find out what they need to do :).
