Day 13 - Luang Prabang Good Causes and Farewell to Mark and Little Chris

Sabaidee :)

Today the 4 of us met Houmpheng Sisanga, and his brother the teacher, at Joy's Restaurant for breakfast. After another stunning breakfast we headed off with HP and his brother on the back of the bikes. We had arranged for a taxi to take the bicycle to the school whilst we rode ahead to deliver some books and smiles. :)

When we arrived at Phonsay village we handed over the books to Dan the teacher who suggested it would be a good idea to take half and give the other half to the school library further away as they are also in need.  It was unfortunate that little Chris and Mark had to part ways with us at this point, as they needed to return to Vientiane.  We said our goodbyes, and headed onto the school further into the Phonsay District which was down a dusty/sandy/muddy/rutted road which made for an interesting and dirty ride with the two boys on the back.

We arrived at the remote village and stopped for lunch which was BBQ duck with fried duck's blood salad.... yes that is literally fried duck's blood! Was very nice and gave us the energy to return. Unfortunately we couldn't wait for the young boy to arrive as the road back to LP was closing shortly due to construction and we didn't want to get stuck.

On the way back we stopped to give the lads a rest a couple of times, and then finally after the dirt roads had ended, one more time at the river to wash the dirt and dust off.  It was around this time that Dan informed us that his son Obie, was not well, and he needed to take him to the hospital.  We took Dan back to his house, where we got to meet Obie, who is 6 months old and adorable, as many kids are at that age.  He had a bit of a cough, and a fever, so we felt it was the right thing to do to give Dan some money to put towards any hospital fees.  In Laos, there is no free health care, we could clearly see that Dan was relieved that this is something he now didn't need to worry about and could do whatever he needed to to get him better.

We then returned to the Hotel to relax for the afternoon and headed to Joy's Restaurant again.... for dinner. This place is amazing!. Joy is so wonderful and an amazing cook!

We retired for the evening and planned to head to Joy's in the morning to have breakfast before our longish ride to Luang Namtha tomorrow.
