Vientiane to Vang Vieng

Sunday we started our Journey north from Vientiane towards Luang Prabang. With the bikes all loaded up we were good to go. To break up the ride and make it a nice easy start to the holiday we decided to stop overnight in Vang Vieng.

We have stayed in Vang Vieng many times in the past, it is primarily a party town where contiki tours and lots of tourists come to party and get hammered. For this reason it is usually only an overnight stop for us as our idea of fun is not getting pissed and floating down the river in tubes, as so many ting tong Falangs (Crazy foreigners) like to do.

Vang Vieng is however an incredibly picturesque location nestled adjacent to some amazing mountains which certainly forms a lovely backdrop. They have lots of fun activities including Canoeing, Hot air ballooning, ATV riding and much more.

After arriving at our usual stay at the Inthira Hotel Vang Vieng, we unloaded the bikes and headed to the restaurant for some well deserved drinks and lunch. The food at the hotel is fantastic and one could definately enjoy laos and international cuisine without even leaving the hotel.

For dinner we headed to the Kangaroo Sunset Bar in town which we have visited in the past and is a fabulous place with great music (However loud), fantastic service and really great international and laos cuisine. With the music pumping we decided to have a few cocktails.

A few turned into half a dozen each and after not long we were very drunk, very happy and unable to walk in a straight line, we had nice seats at the bar so this was no issue. After a great night of drinking, dancing and singing we headed back to the hotel for a well deserved sleep. Special thanks to the staff at the Kangaroo Sunset for making our night so enjoyable.

Stay tuned for photos of our ride to Luang Prabang on Monday via the amazing Route 4 and the incredible scenery we love so much.
